Vapor Blasting

At West-Cam Classic Performance, our vapor blasting service stands out for its advanced, gentle cleaning process that delivers unparalleled results. Vapor blasting combines water, fine abrasive media, and compressed air to clean and restore surfaces with exceptional precision. This method is highly effective at removing dirt, grease, rust, and old paint without damaging the underlying material, making it ideal for delicate and intricate parts. Unlike traditional abrasive blasting, vapor blasting minimizes friction and heat, preventing warping or pitting of the surfaces being treated. This ensures that even the most sensitive components of your classic Lotus car are restored to their original condition without any risk of damage.

The benefits of vapor blasting go beyond just surface cleaning. The process leaves parts with a smooth, satin-like finish that enhances their appearance and performance. By peening the surface, vapor blasting also increases the durability and resistance to future corrosion. This means that not only do your parts look like new, but they also have an extended lifespan. At West-Cam Classic Performance, we include vapor blasting as part of our comprehensive restoration and engine rebuild services to ensure that every component is thoroughly cleaned and revitalized. Whether you’re looking to restore an entire vehicle or just need specific parts cleaned, our vapor blasting service provides the perfect solution for achieving pristine, long-lasting results.

A Brief History

Vapor blasting, also known as wet blasting, was first developed in England during World War II. Rolls-Royce pioneered the process to peen and finish turbine blades for jet engines. In 1950, England banned the use of crystalline silica in traditional sandblasting due to health risks, leading to the development of the first wet blasting systems by Norman Ashworth. This method quickly gained popularity as a safer and more effective alternative. By the 1960s and 70s, wet blasting technology had spread across Europe and eventually to North America in the 1990s. Today, it is widely used for its superior cleaning and finishing capabilities across various industries.
